"Methode Ancienne Cabernet Sauvignon"

from The Springfield Estate A specially selected, steep, rocky, thorn-strangled site was selected 23 years ago to create a single vineyard, the harvest fruits of which have since been honourably treated to highly revered 'ancient' winemaking methods; native yeast fermentation of whole berries in 100% new French Oak; 2 yrs ageing on lees and a min. 2 years in the bottle; unfined and unadulterated - such special attention has resulted in an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon with hallmarks of Purity, Balance & Suppleness that surely rival the 'Best of the Best'.

The Tasting Note is fresh, bright and elegant with an abundance of pure, blackcurrant fruit and even a touch of Bordeaux-like herbaceousness. Ripe and juicy, there is a warmth to the palate although the overall feel is full of zip, zest and life. Truly Fantastic stuff.

This discreet, tucked away winery continues to gain renown - in the last year it was named in two important international publications as the Cape's top producer. Refined, classy and age worthy with a perfumed forest-floor and berry allure. Exciting but measured, the effects of 2 yrs new oak are beautifully assimilated with ripe blackcurrant fruit. Cellarmaster, Marc Kent, has a right to be 'pretty chuffed' at receiving his tenth five-star rating for a red wine in the John Platter guide with this fine example.

Marvellously succulent and ripe with whiffs of cherry & herbs, along with a delightful fresh-crushed blackcurrant tone and cosseting gentle tannins. Yummy!

Zonnebloem Cabernet Sauvignon

Dry finish complementing any red meat.

Spier Cabernet Sauvignon

Ruby red in colour with dark chocolate, cassis and vanilla aromas & flavours. Full bodied with sweet and mature tannins which leave a strong finish full of character.



Beyerskloof Pinotage

A medium to full bodied, complex Pinotage showing plum and red berry flavours, well integrated with the oak aromas and a cherry/banana character. Beautifully managed light ripe tannins and an integrated oak influence combine to offer a wine that can be really enjoyed. Goes well with seafood or light meat dishes, as well as any red meat, pasta or spicy food.


Zonnebloem Pinotage

Very dense tones of blackberry and a light taste of oak - very stylish.


Nederburg Pinotage

A full bodied wine characterized by drinkability when young, yet with potential to age.





Delheim Merlot Medium bodied with a velvety texture, beautifully balanced with ripe berry, plummy fruit flavours. This wine has an elegant, juicy palate which combines richness with finesse in a way that is utterly satisfying.


Fleur du Cap Merlot

Soft smooth tannins with predominant berry tones.


Spier Merlot

Plum red in colour with aromas of mint, cherry and spice that follow through on the palate and are supported by soft gentle tannins.





Zonnebloem Shiraz

Distinctive varietal nose, medium bodied-soft and easy to drink.


Spier Shiraz

Deep purple plum in colour, with attractive black & white pepper aromas complemented by whiffs of ginger and a hint of tropical fruit. The palate is soft, yet mouth-filling, with delightful fruit flavours and hints of coffee and toffee.

The realization of Springfield's 10 yr old dream to make a Bordeaux style red. They've succeeded magnificintly! A fleshy, friut-crammed yet elegant blend with a smooth, seamless; marvellous concentration of ripe Blackberries and Loganberries, combined with hint of Chocolate and Fresh Prune.

A classically built, subtle blend that is up there with the best - although less overtly powerful than many. Fragrant dark Mulberry, cigar smoke and fine Oak spice make up this sultry charmer and offer a burgeoning complexity.

From the Vineyards of pro-golfer Ernie Els, a glossy blend with loads of personality. Confuring up the opulence of Black Forest Gateaux, cut clean by Black Cherry flavours, bright creamy tannins and finely nuanced Mocha - all in savoury harmony.


Nicolas Van der Merwe, Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz/Merlot

Highly rated, this understated blend has signature dry tannins, supple grace, rounded fruit, some Chocolatey richness and a slight fruity sweetness rounding of with a dry finish.


Bushmans Creek, Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot

A full bodied red wine with a juicy & spicy bouquet. Blackcurrant, cherry velvety palate with immmaculate balance between soft, ripe tannins & well structured top quality wine. Long lingering finish enhanced by smoky undertones from oak maturation.


Nederburg Edelrood 

A Classic blend of cabernet & merlot with attractive blackcurrant, cherry and berry fruit flavours.

I love the Raft,  I have been there about a dozen times over the last 2 years and always look forward to coming back.  Great staff, great manager and tonight I finally met the owner Sarah who is just lovely.   I love this place, if you are in Namibia then you need to come to the Raft, Its the best place to eat in town. I recommend it to everyone I know.  The food is excellent, the view is spectacular, its a great place to spend a night with your family or freinds.  I have been here about a dozen times over the past couple of years and always look forward to coming back.  If I had one complaint it would have to be - the Crocodile was off the menu...
